Confirmed by painter and curator Dwayne "Dubelyoo" Wright, I have been invited to show an exclusive new piece at Art Beats + Lyrics, the multi-city year-round exhibition coming this Saturday April 4th to Industry City in Brooklyn, NY.  Bombs are dropping in my head writing those words.

The new piece I’ll be showing is called, ‘Mixtape Love.’ It’s a new piece I created around the idea of nostalgic mixtape love. The kind of mixtape you make for someone you really care about. A special curated playlist to bring you closer when you’re apart, remind you of a moment in time or to follow the rhythm together. The piece was created using 90 tapes from my husband and my personal collection and thrifted tapes.

This piece is part of a larger effort to work on artwork and projects that celebrate our deep connection to music. Including a live painting performance at Art + Sounds at MoCA\CT in Westpost with poet Sahmra Sawyer on April 9th! This event is during their current exhibition about Art, Jazz + Blues.

I first experienced AB+L back in 2019, during Art Basel Week in Miami. I attended the show after hearing about it from the performing musician D Smoke I recognized traveling on the same flight as me! He appeased my fandom with conversation, and told me about Art, Beats and Lyrics, a show he’d be performing at in Wynwood that weekend. I feverishly signed up to attend the Jack Daniel’s sponsored event, showcasing hop-hop inspired art by black artists with musical performances and DJ sets.

The show absolutely BLEW ME AWAY. I experienced stimulation overload from all the insane artwork, incredible atmosphere and amazing music! Since then, I have traveled to Miami, New York and Philly to experience the traveling art and music show as an attendee.

BUT THIS YEAR! I will be attending as an artist! I am buzzing with happiness. The inclusion in the show validates my work, my efforts to fulfil a dream and my connection to a show I truly love, just like a specially curated mixtape.

About the Film: Art, Beats + Lyrics, a powerful new documentary brings to life the inspiring story of one of the most influential art and hip hop shows in America. Originating in Atlanta and celebrating its twentieth anniversary in 2025, Art, Beats + Lyrics (AB+L) has evolved from a local art event to a national phenomenon, thanks in part to the support of Jack Daniel's Tennessee Honey. Directed by Bill Horace and produced by Vox Creative and Cult Creative, in association with Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey, the film chronicles the lead-up to AB+L’s milestone 20th-anniversary tour, kicking off at Miami Art Week.

I highly recommend you to experience this show! It's on tour from September through April each year.
